Personal Care Assistant (PCA)
Help clients with daily living activities including bathing, dressing, meal preparation, medication reminders, and mobility assistance in the comfort of their own home.
- ✓ 18 years or older
- ✓ Background check clearance
- ✓ DHS enrollment required
- ✓ No prior experience needed
Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Support individuals with disabilities in achieving greater independence, community integration, and employment goals under our 245D licensed programs.
- ✓ 18 years or older
- ✓ Valid driver’s license preferred
- ✓ Ability to pass 245D orientation
- ✓ Compassion and patience required
Employment Support Specialist
Guide clients with disabilities in exploring, developing, and maintaining competitive employment. Help them build skills, identify opportunities, and succeed in the workplace.
- ✓ Experience in vocational services preferred
- ✓ Strong communication skills
- ✓ Knowledge of MN DHS systems helpful
- ✓ Positive, encouraging attitude

What You Need to Qualify
Minnesota DHS requires all Personal Care Assistants to meet specific criteria. Here’s what you’ll need to get started.
✅ Basic Requirements
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Be employed by a PCA provider agency
- Initiate and clear a criminal background study
- Enroll with the DHS once all employment criteria are met
✅ Service Requirements
- Effectively communicate with the person and the PCA provider agency
- Provide covered PCA services according to the person’s PCA care plan
- Respond appropriately to the person’s needs
- Report changes in the person’s condition to the qualified professional
- Maintain daily written records including time sheets
- Complete training and orientation on the needs of the recipient
- Be supervised by the consumer or the qualified professional
ℹ️ A PCA/CFSS Worker May NOT Be:
- The person receiving services.
- The participant representative/responsible party for the same person receiving services.
- A person who otherwise has a disqualifying conflict of interest under DHS program rules.
ⓘ A PCA is limited to providing and being paid for up to 310 hours per month of PCA services, regardless of the number of recipients served or number of PCA provider agencies enrolled with.
